Battle of Wood Green: A Community Portrait Project

Help tell the story of a defining moment in Haringey's history

In April 2027, Haringey will mark the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Wood Green – when local people came together to prevent the National Front from marching through the borough.

I'm creating a photographic portrait project celebrating the people, communities and lasting legacy of that day. Through contemporary portraits and personal stories, the project aims to create a lasting visual archive of courage, solidarity and community action.

The finished work will form part of a public exhibition during Haringey's London Borough of Culture 2027 and will help preserve these stories for future generations.

I'd love to hear from

  • People who took part in the events of 23 April 1977

  • Local residents with memories of the day

  • Community organisers, trade unionists and anti-racism campaigners

  • Anyone with photographs, posters, newspaper cuttings or other memorabilia

  • People with family connections to the events

Looking for a young collaborator

I'm also looking for a young person (18–30) from Haringey with an interest in local history, photography, archives or curation to help shape the project. This is an opportunity to gain experience in community history, exhibition development and documentary photography while helping preserve an important chapter in Haringey's past.
